Why do AI answers so often feel generic?

Most people open ChatGPT, type a one-line question and get back a careful, hedge-everything answer that could apply to anyone. Then they decide AI is not that useful.

The problem is rarely the AI. It is the prompt: no context about you, no role for the AI to play, no format for the answer and no follow-up to dig deeper.

What does the Everyday AI Prompt Library do?

It gives you 300 prompts in 12 categories that already do that work. Each prompt tells the AI what role to play, what you need and how to answer. You fill in the [BRACKETS] with your own details, paste it in, and use the follow-up prompt to go one step further.

Every prompt comes with a note on when to use it, the prompt itself, a follow-up and a practical tip. Where AI is likely to get facts wrong, the prompts build in ways to check its work.

What is inside the Everyday AI Prompt Library?

Build a weekend crash course on any topic

Use it when: I need to understand something new quickly, like before a meeting, a purchase, or a conversation, and I don't know where to start.

The prompt

You are a patient teacher who specializes in getting beginners up to speed quickly. I want to learn the basics of [TOPIC] so I can [GOAL]. I have [TIME_AVAILABLE] spread over [TIMEFRAME]. Right now I know [CURRENT_KNOWLEDGE]. Build me a crash course split into short sessions. For each session give: the goal, 3 to 5 key ideas explained in plain language, one everyday analogy, and a 3-question self-check with answers hidden at the end. Finish with a list of 10 terms I should be able to define and the 3 most common beginner misconceptions. Keep each session under 400 words.

Follow-up: Now give me a 10-question mixed quiz covering all sessions, one question at a time, and wait for my answer before telling me if I'm right.

Tip: Be honest about your starting point; saying 'I know nothing' gets you a much better first session than pretending to know the basics.

Plan my week around what actually matters

Use it when: It's Sunday night, I have too much going on, and I want a plan for the week that I'll actually follow.

The prompt

Act as a practical weekly planning coach. Help me build a realistic plan for this week.

My fixed commitments (work hours, appointments, kid pickups): [FIXED_COMMITMENTS]
Everything I'd like to get done this week: [TASK_LIST]
The 1-3 things that would make this week a win: [TOP_PRIORITIES]
When my energy is best and worst: [ENERGY_PATTERN]

Rules: Leave at least 20% of my free time unscheduled as buffer. Put demanding tasks in my high-energy windows. If my list doesn't fit, tell me plainly what to move to next week instead of cramming it in.

Output: a day-by-day table (Day | Morning | Afternoon | Evening), then a short "Not this week" list, then one sentence on the biggest risk to this plan.

Follow-up: It's Wednesday and I'm behind. Here's what got done: [DONE_SO_FAR]. Rebalance the rest of the week without adding hours.

Tip: List your fixed commitments first and be honest about them; most weekly plans fail because they ignore the time already spoken for.

Improve my prompt before I use it

Use it when: I wrote a prompt but the answers I get are generic, and I suspect my question is the problem.

The prompt

Act as an expert prompt writer. I'm going to give you a prompt I wrote. Don't answer it. Improve it.

My original prompt: [MY_PROMPT]
What I'm actually trying to get out of it: [REAL_GOAL]
What was wrong with the answers I got: [PROBLEMS_WITH_ANSWERS]

Steps:
1. List what's missing or unclear in my prompt (role, goal, context, constraints, output format).
2. Ask me up to 4 questions to fill the most important gaps. Wait for my answers.
3. Rewrite the prompt using my answers. Put any details I'll need to change next time in square brackets, in ALL_CAPS.

Output the final prompt in a single block I can copy, followed by 2 sentences on what changed and why.

Follow-up: Now make a shorter version of the improved prompt that keeps 80% of the quality for quick everyday use.

Tip: Tell the AI what was wrong with the answers you got; that's the fastest clue to what your prompt is missing.

Who is the Everyday AI Prompt Library for?

It is a good fit if

  • You use ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini now and then and want better answers without learning “prompt engineering”.
  • You would rather copy a proven prompt than stare at a blank chat box.
  • You want one place to keep prompts you will reuse. The CSV drops straight into Notion, Google Sheets or Excel.
  • You are helping a parent, partner or coworker get started with AI and want an easy first step.

It is not for you if

  • Developers looking for coding, automation or API prompts.
  • People who want a video course. This is a reference library you dip into as needed.
  • Anyone who wants AI to replace a doctor, lawyer or accountant. The prompts help you prepare and ask better questions, not skip the professional.
