  • 72 prompts in 9 chapters
  • 9 fill-in worksheets
  • PDF to read or print, plus a CSV for Notion, Google Sheets or Excel
  • Works with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and DeepSeek

Educational only, not financial, tax or legal advice. AI can make math mistakes, so check the numbers before you act on them.

Why is budgeting so hard to stick with?

Budgeting apps want your bank login and a monthly fee. Spreadsheets take a weekend to set up and a week to abandon. Most money advice is either too generic to act on or trying to sell you something.

What most people actually need is someone patient to think it through with: where the money goes, what to cut first, and which debt to attack in what order.

What does the AI Money & Budgeting Playbook do?

It shows you how to use a free AI assistant as a patient, judgment-free money coach, step by step: take a 30-minute snapshot of where your money goes, build a budget that fits how you actually spend, find and stop money leaks, lay out a dated debt payoff plan, build an emergency fund, decode statements and credit reports, spot scams, and keep it all on track with a short monthly review.

The prompts work with rough numbers you type in yourself. You never need to connect an account, and you should never paste account numbers or passwords into any AI chat.

Your 30-Minute Money Snapshot · MB-01

Privacy Double-Check

Use it when: Right before you paste any statement or transaction list into a chatbot, after you have already removed the obvious details.

The prompt

Role: You are a careful privacy reviewer for personal financial data.
Goal: Check that the text below is safe to analyze and contains no personal identifiers.
Context: I removed account numbers, my name and my address before pasting. I want a second look before I use this data in other prompts.
Constraints: Do not analyze my spending yet. Look only for anything that could identify me or my accounts: digit strings longer than 4 characters, names of people, street addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, employer names, reference or confirmation numbers.
Output: A short list of each risky item with its line and what to replace it with (for example "replace with FRIEND 1"). If nothing is risky, say "Clear to use."
Text: [PASTE_SCRUBBED_TRANSACTIONS]

Follow-up: Replace anything it flags, then paste the cleaned version into MB-02 in a fresh temporary chat.

Tip: This catches the details people miss most often: names in Zelle and Venmo descriptions, and reference numbers hiding in long transaction strings.

Emergency Fund and Savings Goals · MB-33

Emergency Fund Target Calculator

Use it when: You do not know how much emergency savings you actually need.

The prompt

Role: You are a practical financial educator.
Goal: Calculate my emergency fund targets in three stages.
Context: Monthly essentials: housing [AMOUNT], utilities [AMOUNT], groceries [AMOUNT], transportation [AMOUNT], insurance [AMOUNT], minimum debt payments [AMOUNT], childcare or medical [AMOUNT]. Income type: [STEADY / VARIABLE]. Earners in household: [NUMBER]. Dependents: [NUMBER]. How long it would take to replace my job: [ESTIMATE]. Current savings: [AMOUNT].
Constraints: Count only essentials, not my full budget. Explain why my situation points to the lower or higher end of three to six months. Show all math.
Output: 1) Essential monthly total. 2) Starter target, one-month target and full target with a recommended number of months. 3) How far along I am in percent. 4) Two sentences on why my full target is what it is.

Follow-up: Ask: "Which of my essentials could I cut temporarily in a real emergency, and how would that change the target?"

Tip: Your emergency target is based on a bare-bones month, which is usually well below your normal spending. That makes the full target less intimidating.

Your 20-Minute Monthly Money Review · MB-65

Monthly Review Facilitator

Use it when: It is your monthly review day and you want the AI to walk you through it step by step.

The prompt

Role: You are my monthly money review coach. You keep things moving and positive.
Goal: Guide me through a 20-minute monthly money review.
Context: Month being reviewed: [MONTH]. My budget: [PASTE_BUDGET]. Balances at the start and end of the month: checking [START_END], emergency fund [START_END], irregular fund [START_END], total debt [START_END], goals [START_END].
Constraints: Run four stages: gather, compare, adjust, plan. Ask me for information one stage at a time and wait for my answers. Limit me to one main adjustment. Keep each stage to about five minutes.
Output: At the end: a summary with what went well, what went over, my one change for next month, upcoming expenses in the next 30 days, and one win to celebrate, formatted so I can paste it into my notes.

Follow-up: Ask: "Save this as the template we will use every month and tell me what to bring next time."

Tip: Keep this prompt in a note on your phone. Starting the review is the hardest part, and having the prompt ready removes the friction.

Questions about the AI Money & Budgeting Playbook

Do I need ChatGPT Plus or another paid AI plan?

No. Every prompt works with the free versions of ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and DeepSeek. Paid plans can handle longer pastes and file uploads more easily, but if a free version hits a limit, you can paste one month of transactions at a time and ask the AI to combine the results.

Is my financial data safe if I paste it into an AI chatbot?

Anything you paste is sent to the AI company, so the playbook teaches you to share only what is needed. Chapter 1 shows you how to scrub statements down to date, description and amount, and to never paste account numbers, your Social Security number, passwords, PINs or login codes. You will also learn to turn off chat history or model training where your app allows it. Read the privacy policy of whichever app you use; DeepSeek's policy, for example, states that it stores data on servers in China, so be especially careful there.

Is this financial advice?

No. This is an educational guide to organizing your money and using AI as a helper. It does not tell you which investments to buy, and its investing content is limited to understanding terms, reading fees and preparing questions for a licensed professional, such as a fee-only financial planner.

I am not good with numbers or technology. Will this work for me?

Yes. Each prompt is copy-and-paste: replace the words in [BRACKETS] with your details and send it. The AI does the sorting and math drafts, and the playbook shows you how to double-check the important numbers. The Quick Start gets you a real result, usually a cancelled subscription, in about 15 minutes.

What exactly do I get?

A downloadable PDF playbook with nine chapters, 72 ready-to-use prompts, a worked example that follows one person through real numbers, and nine worksheets, plus a CSV file of every prompt you can import into Notion, Google Sheets or Excel.

Does it work with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and DeepSeek?

Yes. The prompts are plain text, so they work in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and DeepSeek and any other chat assistant. Copy a prompt, fill in the [BRACKETS] with your details and paste it in. Free versions work; paid versions tend to give stronger answers on longer tasks.

How do I get my files after paying?

Checkout is handled by Stripe. As soon as payment goes through you land on your download page, and we email you a link to it. Bookmark it: you can come back any time for fresh download links.

Is this a subscription?

No. It is a one-time payment with lifetime access to your download page. There is nothing to cancel.

Can I get a refund?

No. These are digital files you can download the moment you pay, so all sales are final. That is why every page shows the full table of contents and free sample prompts: you can see exactly what you are getting first. If a file will not open or download, email gary@dgresolutions.com and we will fix it.
